every human act of creation is design

From 2013 to 2017 I scouted problem-solving ideas from across the world for Dutch indie design magazine WorksThatWorks magazine. This section, called Artefacts, captured everything from the design of voting ballots for illiterates in Egypt to an experiment by Heineken to create rectangular beer bottles that can be reused as bricks.

The Artefacts Section covered ingenious ideas from all over the globe - developed hundreds of years ago or yesterday.

WorksThatWork was founded by type designer Peter Bilak in the Netherlands in 2013 as a bi-annual magazine with 10 episodes. It’s a kind of National Geographic of design, but instead of featuring design gurus and expensive furniture, it reports on design from the perspective that every human act of creation is design.
